VANILJEHUSET – THE VANILLA HOUSE
By Mich Vraa
THE VANILLA HOUSE is a family story about ambition and betrayal and the difficulties of choosing the real goals in life.
At the end of the 19th century, the forester’s son Dusinius in Odense grows up as the twelfth sibling. The hardships in his childhood home makes him hungry for richness (riches?) and fame, and already as a 8-year old Dusinius has begun to buy cheap and sell with a profit. As a young man he starts a trade business – the Vanilla House – that soon becomes one of the most prominent in the country.
DURING A STAY at the Hareskov Kuranstalt in 1929 the older, weak hearted Dusinius looks back at his tumultuous life, his childhood hardships, the confusion in his youth, relationships and the questionable businesses he acquired during the First World War which are still haunting him.
