ONE EARLY SPRING morning, Shirin wakes up in a tent on the island of Vorsø by Horsens Fjord. Her older brother is still asleep in the tent. She gets up, walks down to the water’s edge and washes herself in the sea water. The beach is deserted and it’s far too quiet. Their father, Tami, had wanted to wake them early to go fishing in the morning, and now the sun is already high in the sky. She walks over to her father’s tent to wake him up, only to find him with his throat slit, bathed in his own blood. Terrified, Shirin flees the island to the safety of the only family she knows, auto mechanic Nima Ansari.
THE SOUTHEASTERN JUTLAND Police are promised assistance from the homicide department in Copenhagen to solve Tami’s murder. The case lands on the desk of head investigator Petter Bohm who is feeling stressed, overwhelmed and forgetful, Petter asks Liv to help him solve the case and find Shirin and her brother before the killer does.
FROM LIV’S HOME in the basement apartment in Vesterbro, the clues branch out to both the past and the present, and to the residents of the backyard who gradually realize that silence always comes at a price.
