I EN FÖRVANDLAD STAD – IN A CITY TRANSFORMED
By Per Anders Fogelström
Stockholm 1925-1945, twenty years of remarkable change for the city and its citizens’ lives. Sweden is somewhat in the shadow of the Great Wars, but of course affected.. At the same time cars are rolling down the streets, the apartments in the city get showers and toilets. The unsubdued Emelie, who now works in a store, is the family’s core, but all around her relatives walk their own, very different paths. Some have become middle class and can now reap the benefits of the development in Stockholm. The workers notice the changing of the times as well with increased unemployment but begin to see the advantages of the welfare state.
This is the fourth part in the beloved Quintet by Per-Anders Fogelström.
