Ola Larsmo’s highly praised novel Swede Hollow will be interpreted on stage later this year. The Swedish royal theatre, Dramaten, are showing the play based on the novel directed by Alexander Mørk-Eidem. Swede Hollow premieres on November 8th and tickets are available here.
Swede Hollow was first published by Albert Bonniers Förlag in September 2016 and has been considered one of the most important Swedish novels published last year. Larsmo paints a detailed and relatable portrait of a Swedish family leaving everything behind in 1897 to chase the American dream. Their journey is everything but dreamlike, they settle down in a Swedish ghetto in Minnesota and Larsmo gives us a necessary reminder that segregation is a big part of our collective memory.
