ESTHER HAS ESCAPED  from her abusive husband, the respected doctor Andreas, and has goneinto hiding at a crisis center. She drinks, has mental problems, and doesn’t get along well with the other women. She fears the day Andreas receives the divorce papers because she knows he will never let her go.

DAVID, A FORMER police officer turned private detective, is asked by a woman from the North Zealand upper class to take on a case. He initially declines until he realizes that the target is someone he knows, someone he has betrayed. His investigation
leads him to a boarding school and an old poisoning case. Meanwhile, the women at the crisis center discover that Esther has disappeared.
