GELLERT TAMAS IS one of Sweden’s most prominent political journalists. He writes for the leading daily newspaper Dagens Nyheter and is the author of several award-winning books. His bestselling book The Laser Man: A Story About Sweden (2002) explores the case of John Ausonius, a racially motivated serial killer who terrorized Stockholm in the early 1990s with his laser-point rifle. The book was adapted into a TV series for Swedish Public Television in 2005, earning a Kristallen Award. With more than 200 000 copies sold, The Laser Man is one of the most widely read journalistic books in Swedish history.
IN 2018, HE was awarded the Torgny Segerstedt’s Frihetspenna Prize for “writing about Swedish contemporary history pointing to racism and abuse of power” and “describing the driving forces behind xenophobic movements” in The Laser Man as well as The Apathetic (2009) and The Swedish Hatred (2016).
HIS LATEST BOOK, The Definite Battle, was published in June 2022 and examines the evolution of the far-right Sweden Democrats party during the past thirty years.
