The Writing In The Water is the first part in a new trilogy from John Ajvide Lindqvist, where he leaves the horror genre and ventures into crime not leaving his signatory style of storytelling behind.

The story takes off on Midsummer Eve 2019, where a feast has been prepared by a wealthy businessman Olof Helander, who wants to impress his international guests but the dinner is abruptly ended when a boat with two men show up and they mercilessly begins shooting.

Not far away, journalist Julia Malmros and her hacker friend Kim Ribbing are spending their Midsummer weekend talking over a project they worked on that didn’t go as they had hoped when they suddenly hear the gunshots. Julia and Olof has been longtime friends.

Julia and Kim begin to investigate what happened at Olof’s dinner and soon they are on a journey across the world following the leads to uncover the truth.
