We are thrilled to announce that authors Julia Ravanis and Jonas Enander have been awarded the prestigious Gerard Bonniers Donation Fund Scholarship for 2024. Each recipient will receive a grant of 75,000 SEK. The Swedish Academy highlighted their unique contributions to literature and science communication in its announcement during the annual ceremonial meeting on December 20th.

Julia Ravanis: Illuminating Science and Ideas

Julia Ravanis, born in 1993 and also based in Stockholm, is an engineer in applied physics and a Ph.D. candidate in the history of technology at Chalmers University of Technology. She holds a master’s degree in intellectual history, making her work a rich intersection of science, philosophy, and human experience.

Her acclaimed debut book, Beauty in Chaos (2021), explores the parallels between theoretical physics and human emotions. In 2024, she released Emmy´s Teorem, a biography and exploration of the work of Emmy Noether, one of the greatest mathematicians of the 20th century, whose legacy remains underappreciated. Ravanis also writes extensively on topics such as mathematics, AI, and the history of ideas, contributing to Glänta magazine and Svenska Dagbladet.

Jonas Enander: Bridging Science and Humanity

Jonas Enander, born in 1981 and based in Stockholm, is a physicist with a passion for making complex scientific concepts accessible to the public. He earned his Ph.D. in 2015 with a dissertation titled Cosmic Tests of Massive Gravity and is currently a science communicator at the Oskar Klein Centre, a research hub founded by Stockholm University and KTH Royal Institute of Technology.

Enander’s research focuses on black holes and Einstein’s general theory of relativity, topics he eloquently explores in his latest book, Facing the Darkness – Black Holes and our Place on Earth (2024). This work dives into one of the universe’s greatest mysteries, connecting the science of black holes to human existence. Enander is also a regular contributor to popular science journals, writing about physics and astronomy.

The Gerard Bonniers Donation Fund was established in 1992 to support young, promising authors. This year’s honorees, Jonas Enander and Julia Ravanis, exemplify the scholarship’s mission to recognize emerging talents who bring new perspectives to literature and science.
