Tina who works at the customs department is tremendously skillful at catching smugglers. She has never yet been wrong, until this particular day. When Vore steps off the ferry she hesitates for the first time. Tina suspects that he is hiding something, but she doesn’t know what. They are attracted to one another and as she gets to know him she realises that her whole life has been based upon a lie.
Border was previously published in the book of short stories Paper Walls and has now become a full-length movie, directed by Ali Abbasi, with premiere in 2018. The movie has been chosen as Sweden’s entry for best foreign language film at this year’s Academy Awards. It also received the prestigious award Un Certain Regard at the Cannes Film Festival.
In connection with this, Border is now being published for the first time by itself, with a newly written introduction by the author.
